Firefighters Battle Stubborn Fire in Garbage Truck

Around 8AM on Tuesday September 4th Waltham Fire C-2, Engine 2 & Ladder Tower 1 responded to 78 Fourth Avenue for a reported recycling truck on fire. On arrival companies found no truck fire as the truck had left the area.

As companies were returning a 911 call came in saying the truck was now at 680 Lexington Street and on fire. C-2, Engine 7 & Ladder Tower 1 responded. Engine 7 on arrival found a garbage truck well involved. The Deputy chief on arrival requested an additional Engine company as Engine 7's 750 Gallon Tank was not going to do it for this fire.

Engine 8 was dispatched and upon arrival stretched a 4" feeder from a nearby hydrant into Engine 7. 2 Lines were stretched and companies began overhauling the trash inside the truck.

Companies contained damage to the rear area of the garbage truck. The driver escaped unharmed.
