Tanker Rollover Shutsdown Interstate 95 in Woburn

BREAKING NEWS: Emergency crews are currently working a 4th Alarm, Tier-3 Hazmat incident for a Rollover of a Tanker carrying approx 10,000 Gallons of fuel on I-95 SB @ Exit 36. Two people have been injured and transported to the hospital. Both Directions of I-95 have been closed and traffic is being detoured onto I-93 (Exit 37) going SB & Route 38 (Exit 35) going Northbound. The Highway is expected to remian closed for several hours and possibly into the Tuesday Morning Commute. Stayed tuned as this is an ongoing incident.

FULL STORY W/ PHOTOS: Around 10PM on Monday July 16th Woburn Police, Fire, EMS & Mass State Police responded to Route 128/I-95 SB @ Exit 36 for a reported crash with rollover involving a tanker. FD struck Box 461 and on arrival found a 10,000 Gallon Tanker Truck on its roof leaking and another vehicle with damage involved in the accident.

A 2nd Alarm was quickly transmitted and I-95 was shutdown in both directions by MSP. The Deputy Requested Massport Engine 5  & Hanscom Crash 10 to the scene for foam. The Deputy then requested a Tier-3 Hazmat Response sending 26 Members of the Mass Metro Fire Hazmat Team. Firefighters and Medics quickly worked to treat the victims.  The driver of the truck was transported to Mass General Hospital and the driver of the other vehicle transported to an unknown hospital.

The Fuel was quickly leaking from the truck and a 3rd Alarm was transmitted and a Full scale evacuation of 70 People from the area began including the Hotel. Crews quickly began building dikes to hold the fuel at bay and Hanscom crash truck sprayed the scene with foam to keep the fuel from igniting. Just before Midnight the deputy transmitted a 4th Alarm bringing multiple mutual aid companies to the scene. Crews cleaned up the fuel spill, off loaded what was left in the tanker and towed away the truck during the early morning hours. Lanes were closed at the beginning of the morning commute but were all reopened by 8AM.

Woburn Firefighters received mutual aid from Wakefield, Reading, Stoneham, Burlington, Medford, Malden, Waltham & Everett.
